What some people will do for a buck.

A woman will have to spend up to 90 days in jail and make restitution for sending her children door to door seeking donations for a trip to a volleyball camp.

Carley Torres will have to pay back more than $3,000 after pleading guilty to theft charges.

The 35-year-old Torres and her 33-year-old husband, Laramie Torres, sent their children through neighborhoods in Medford, Ashland and Eagle Point last year to ask for donations to send their oldest daughter to a volleyball camp.

But the couple instead spent the money on shopping mall trips, monster truck rallies and weekends at the movies.

Laramie Torres will help his wife make restitution, but he got community service instead of jail time for his guilty plea to theft charges.

This is why people don’t like door-to-door sales people.

But I guess if you use your kids to do the selling, it works.

These people should be put in jail. I feel bad for the children and anyone who donated money.

I think it was not right for her to do this. 90 days in jail as a punishment is *way* too much! Maybe she will be raped or exposed to drugs? She was a bad mother and was responsible for them cheating to many people, but you cannot sum this up to a “big crime” just because she made quite some money by this. In my opinion…

Wow- I don’t know what to say. The couple should have enrolled the kid into camp, and if anything was left over- they could use the money to buy stuff for the house, like curtains, blankets, etc, and that would be okay.

Well, at least it\\\’s a creative way to scam? Heh. But that\\\’s really low. I can\\\’t believe they would do that and using their children, too, is not sending a good message or teaching any morals.

Boy that is just low! I am glad that she is going to jail. So many schools and students go door to door in my neighborhood for legit fundraisers. This lady is making it hard on them all. And to put her kids up to that is just gross!
