With all the economic doomsday talk right now, it’s nice to find companies that are turning the tables.
Herbalife reported it’s 19th consecutive quarter of double-digit sales growth, banking 3rd quarter net sales of $602.2m. That’s a increase of 13.7% over the same period in 2007.
You can get the full press release here:
This is important.
Consider:
- All the really good economic news you’ve heard lately (probably not much)
- How many industries are going down the sinkhole (all of them, right?)
- How the proliferation of US dollars + Wall Street mis-management = no uncertain economic doom for “main streeters”
- How “people” can’t afford to pay for gas, their mortgages, or even haircuts.
And then consider all the flack that Herbalife has taken in recent months and years in the courtroom (do a quick google search for “herbalife legal”).
And THEN consider the above press release.
Now, I’m not saying there aren’t major issues in the Amercian economy.
Because there are.
And I’m not saying that some Americans are not feeling major economic “adjustments”.
Because some are.
But even a business
- with legal issues
- public image issues
- publicly traded, and subject to significant government oversight on top of answering to shareholders
- in an industry directly impacted by economic turmoil
- AND directly dependent on consumers to not only purchase but also SELL it’s products
That press release shows that a company with all this going against it can not only survive…
It can thrive.
Food for thought.

I think people are still willing to put money into health based issues. I know for my wife and myself that is still a priority even though we might skimp or save in other areas.

Some of the recent success of Herbalife can be attributed to their development of community-based Weight Loss Challenges. Participants pay a fee, attend twelve weeks of classes on nutrition and exercise, and the \’biggest loser\’ gets a portion of the money collected. Throughout the classes, the teacher (Herbalife salesperson) promotes Herbalife products as a means to weight loss. There is a website for participants for additional support/promotion.
