So what are the top 10 MLM companies to promote?

This is a totally loaded question.

Why?

Because an MLM company is just a vehicle, and when you are trying to get somewhere, the driver matters a lot more than the vehicle.

Of course, there is a caveat here – if your vehicle breaks down, you’re screwed.  So the key is to find a company that has a product or products you are passionate about, and a leadership team in place to ensure longevity.

That said, there are some companies that have lame payouts, lame products, poor capitalization, etc.  So we can list our opinion on the top 10 MLM companies, but the most important factor in MLM success is to find a company that isn’t going to melt-down after you build an organization, with products or a service that you really dig.

Your ability to market is critical.  Without that skill, it doesn’t matter which MLM company you join – you’re not going to get anywhere.  Understanding your market – what is important to them, what their priorities are, what appeals to them – these things matter a whole lot more than getting involved at the “right time” or finding the “right team” to join.

So take our list of the Top MLM Companies is much more of a direction for you to review than an endorsement or quick fix.

So here we go:

  1. Cognigen
  2. Xocai
  3. Usana
  4. Team National
  5. ACN
  6. Prepaid Legal
  7. Monavie
  8. Vemma
  9. Melaleuca
  10. YTB

  1. Scott Says:

I would vote for Prepaid Legal only because I have worked with them in the past. My employer used them as a benefits option and offered their services for a $10.00 monthly deduction from your pay check. You were able to get a free will out of it for you and your family, so it was not a bad deal.

  2. Chris Says:

Good article. No surprises here, I thought Melaleuca would be higher on the list for some reason.

  3. scott Says:

    what happened to NSE?

  4. Mayra Says:

I like the statement “with products or a service that you really dig”, if you don’t dig the product… doesn’t matter how much OTHER people are selling or marketing it. It won’t work long term. LOL, I learned the hard way. Then 2nd marketing, marketing, marketing. :) Love your list.

  5. Ozlat @ Energy Cans Says:

Ooooooh… Vemma at Number 8… let’s see if we can pump that up and get it to be the Number 1 choice by the end of 2009… yeeoooow!!!

  6. jbpr2008 Says:

This seems like a reasonable list. I would personally put Team National first, but it\’s a matter of personal criteria. The insight regarding MLM companies is appropriate.

  7. Sunilpatel Says:

I really like the way people everybody wrote on this blog. This is a nice forum which we can discuss among others and get to know lot of things amongs us.
I would like to be a part of such MLM companies as well and be a reason for the success.

  8. karen Says:

If you are not passionate about the product how would become successful at it? I\’m not really familiar with MLM companies but I\’ve heard of ACN from my cousin seems to be doing great with ACN and will be featured in the next season of Apprentice.

  9. Ankur Mohta Says:

I found interest in this article because I have also joined one MLM Company and it is going on fine. I receive their payment. I will try your companies also.

  10. Sam Says:

It really doesn\’t matter which company is at the top; who\’s right or who\’s wrong ; what matters is which one is TOPS for you, in your mind, which company and its products &/or services you have or have had a positive experience with and what kind of Top Notch training you have had like HBSA to be the best in your company and to be a leader, THE leader, the teacher, the person who trains the trainer(s) . You see , after almost 12 years of \"doing everything my up-line was teaching me\" in two top notch companies, I was still not having the success I had hoped for- I am a great presenter and a good trainer, but I was teaching failed policy that is still being taught today – one MUST learn tried & true text book scientific marketing principles as well as good communication skills, PROPER prospecting and closing as well as be a GREAT listener and APPLY them to their business – NWM/MLM is no different (except what they teach) than any other business model from a marketing perspective – you must target market to the RIGHT people so you are talking to the right people and have a marketing strategy and system that attracts folks to you and then be able to communicate with them properly – No Hype, No Fluff – as Detective Friday used to say on Dragnet \"Just the facts Mam\" or in The Guns of Will Sonnett, \"No brag, just facts\" – Josh and Martin are brilliant , professional, very talented teachers and Mentors as well as marketers and they are Gurus ! NWM/MLM is the greatest industry in the world IF you know how to work it correctly .

  11. Milita Says:

My ex-husband sells Prepaid Legal. He’s been doing it for years and truly stands behind the product. They wouldn’t be as successful as they are if it wasn’t a service that is in-demand and actually works.

  12. Joshua Stewardson Says:

My mom swears by Melaleuca products. I know they have helped me too and they seem like a solid, well-run company.

  13. Patrick J. Fortunato Says:

    Network Marketer’s ROCK!

  14. Govindan Namboodiri Says:

A good job has been done here by making the “netizens“ aware of the dependable MLM companies. They will surely get benefited by this article.Thanks.

  15. CrystalEg Says:

I completely agree that the “driver” is more important then the “vehicle”. I am personally a member of prepaid legal and I was glad to see it on your list. Perhaps relieved is a better way to put it! With something like prepaid legal and other such companies its hard to know exactly what you are getting into.

  16. Sally Says:

glad to hear such positive things about this fun NWM industry.

  17. Joyce Katz Says:

I was in YTB. They aren\’t exactly truthful with agents. I just cancelled my sites. You have to believe in your products and their honesty. I cannot do that anymore.

  18. admin Says:

@Joyce – a story I hear all too often. This post went live quite some time ago – YTB has had a rough time of it as of late, partially with practices such as you’re describing.

  19. Becky Smith Says:

I enjoyed your article on Network Marketing. I was very pleased at the top ten suggested list. I am with Team National and feel, after having tried too many other companies to mention, that I have finallly found the only company that saves their people money and pays higher than any other Direct Selling company in the United States. Thanks!

  20. sonia Says:

    Hi Guys
How can I get some prospecting tips on how to get about 25 qualified people to present my product to instead of family/friends if you are broke and cant pay for leads?

  21. Paul Carter Says:

I am a Regional Manager with Lightyear Wireless, which offers free wireless service and pays true residuals on phone service. I didn’t see them listed. Haven’t you heard of us?

  22. Priscilla Santayana Says:

I am just starting with Agel. I like the way the products are packaged because you do not need medicine glasses to measure the dose and besides it can be taken fast, easy to swallow especially those having problems swallowing pills and mixed powders. although I have retired as a nurse educator, I can teach family and friends how to just open the foil and gulp it. I hae not experienced the benefits yet, just started this week. I will share the benefits when I will be using it for a while.

  23. LauraKansanen Says:

    Wau!
But the best is yet to come. Be Ready!

  24. Jeff Cohen Says:

This was a great article. I’m researching to find the right opportunity and I keep running into reviews from people with vested interests. Any chance that you could list a top 25? Please give me more info on your programs.

  25. Fabiola Murphy Says:

I am with Fotune Hi Tech Marrketing and I love it! It pays the way it says it pays and is also a mutual fund approach to Network Marketing. Name recognition is huge and we market for Big Name companies that people are using already anyway. I love it. I have not seen another compensation plan as generous as ours, and believe me, I have looked around. I refused to do another MLM for many years until this came my way. I get paid to do what I have always done and share it with others. However, why are we not on the list is my question?? 100% debt free company and another pay raise in residuals are coming in the next couple months…

  26. SRIDHARAN R Says:

I am doing Amway. The Nutrilite products are best of nature and best of science. Also, the only debt free company in America in the recession. Then I dont know why it is not in the top 10. Thank you.

  27. Mary Speller Says:

I am with Mannatech which is not on the list. I am very happy with the company, and very impressed with the quality of the products, and training and support provided by the company.
I do not live in USA which affects the choices available. Another important aspect is the belief you have in the products and the company.
Once you have chosen, work on your personal development and marketing skills, make sure you have a mentor and learn from the best in your company.

  28. Emma Says:

Hi there, thanks for the list. Just wondering what criteria you used in arriving at your Top 10 MLM, and would you mind sharing it?

  29. Sue Says:

Its really about relationships – MLM should be called Relationship Marketing. Xocai, which is #2, is also a debt free company in the U.S. And their product is Chocolate…and 1 Billion people at chocolate today.

  30. Jeff Says:

I believe everyone should be in the HEALTHY CHOCOLATE BUSINESS!!! XOCAI IS WHY!!! XOCAI is a DEBT FREE COMPANY that has annual growth of 30-50%, no wonder xocai is in the top 3, soon to be number 1, it works for me and many others!!!

  31. Cherryl Says:

Glad to see Xocai as # 2 . . . a wonderfully solid, debt-free company. I chose this as my very first encounter in NWM nearly 3 years ago. I have never regretted that decision. It is not difficult to have a passion for chocolate . . . and once the health testimonials start pouring in from your team . . . it is humbling. In only 11 months of doing my chocolate biz at part-time effort . . . I was able to exceed the full-time corporate income that took me 23 years to get! Chocolate is simple . . . 9/10 people love and crave it. Because our chocolate is healthy, EVERYONE from 1 – 101 can be our customer! It just doesn’t get ANY better than chocolate!

  32. Red Says:

I’m there with you guys and XOCAI. I never really ate chocolate prior to this but after experiencing the tremendous health benefits its hard not to be passionate and share what I now can’t live with out. After becoming aware of the media attention given to the primary ingredients in the Xocai product line I began to really see how this company is changing so many lives in Health and Wealth. MLM companies usually have a great story behind them and I am interested in all of them but for now I am really interested in the mxicorp.com/thewholestory. Be passionate in what ever you are doing and see you all at the Top!

  33. Raymond E Foster Says:

Sorry guys you missed the boat! Fortune Hi-Tech Marketing sells no products, but is revered by all the Cell Phone provides, and over 1000 National Retailers. This nine year old Company has no debt, pays out 90% of its gross income to the independent distributors. Next time you prepare such a list be sure and show the percentage of income paid out to their distributors. The company is the brainchild of the most successful network marketer in the history of the industry. What criteria did you use to come up with your list?

  34. admin Says:

    @Raymond

Thanks for your comment. To preface my comment – this article was originally posted December 2008, and there are other companies out now that were not back then.

We do take % income paid to distributors into account. We also take other things into account, and the only issue holding FHTM back at this point is their issues with Montana and North Dakota:

    http://hbiznews.com/blog/2010/03/state-number-2-montana-gives-fhtm-the-boot/

Truth is, everyone thinks their business is the best (rightly so), and we get emails every day telling us that we goofed by leaving their company off. Let us say for the record that the BEST opportunity is the one you are passionate about – no matter what any list they are on, or what anyone else thinks. Everyone is entitled to their opinion – including us :) This list is just a representation of that opinion.

We STRONGLY agree with Sam (commenter # 10) – what matters is that you know marketing, and you’re passionate about what you’re promoting. Everything else is pretty irrelevant.

Finally – let me encourage EVERYONE to do their due diligence on a company they choose to stand behind. Arbonne International is an anti-aging company that was promoted for years as being debt free in their literature:

    http://www.docstoc.com/docs/16998933/ARBONNE

And this year sought Chapter 11 protection to escape an $800 million dollar mountain of debt.

    http://www.voicewind.net/2010/01/30/arbonne-chapter-11-bankruptcy-restructuring-links/

Again, my point is not to promote/demote a specific company: it’s to remind you that YOU are your OWN BUSINESS – and your first responsibility is to take care and tend to that business.

  35. Ray K Says:

I was with Team National for 41/2 years. The company talks about residual income. I made it to the top level Platinum with no income. a huge team of people several thousand and 0 income after the economy plummeted in 09. Your income in Team national is solely based upon members you sign up or your downline signs. If your downline quits on you your income stops totally. I left in Jan 2010 and joined a MLM that has truly residual income. Team National misleads with deception of passive residual income. very wrong

  36. Brett M. Says:

I have done AMWAY(market seemed saturated).
I have done Pre-Paid Legal(good company, I still use their services).
I was with World Leadership Group(WLG, thought it was a promising company).
I was just looking for a company where I didn’t have to pay any extra fees just to make a sale, like licensing fees. I was joining because I wanted to make money, not $500.00 to start then another $1200.00 to be fully licensed. I just wish companies would be straight up before asking you to commit and making you feel stupid because you can’t afford it. But now I have found the right company and has been paid without any other fees. Good luck everyone.

  37. Grahame S. Says:

I guess we all would want our network marketing company to be #1… and… are we taking the focus off our passion if we were able to tell people “and our company is #1 in the industry!”

You see what I mean? What happens when another network marketing company starts up and is suddenly #1 for a few years.. those people you told we were #1 feel, what… a sudden sense of credibility for you or the company… not a 100% given is it….?

I would prefer if we focused on us and our passions… this is why..

I think this link to Tom Hopkins on youtube sums it up really well..
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgJWfZukaaQ&feature=channel

At the end of the day.. then its a matter of.. are you willing to do enough due dilligence on your company to find out what really are the health/legal/or whatever product benefits they CLAIM they have?

And… if you found out that the products dont really have what they say it has… are you prepared to admit to yourself and others, “the company dupes people, its all a sham” (and look for another company quick! lol)

And… if you found out that the preoducts do genuinely have the benefits they claim… then you can go forward to the market with not only total confidence in what you say is accurate.. you will also have the true integrity that Tom spoke about.

At that point… they cannot say no to your beliefs…
up until that time… you have a belief without a foundation and people smell it when you talk with them..

I’m not going to name the company I’m with, I hope that people are encouraged to ask the hard questions of their company (or company they are thinking of being with), leave no stone unturned until you get to the bottom of the claims.

    Best wishes for you all

  38. Willie Says:

To Brett M. I am doing an MLM with a company called FHTM and it is the best that I have seen and it works. Check it out and give me a call when you have more questions…

  39. admin Says:

    @Grahame – FTW.

  40. Pete Stockdale Says:

One of the minor drawbacks of a Top 10 list is that it will naturally focus on the well established companies, that are already very well represented. I have recently become involved with Cherries Sports Network (LINK DELETED BY MODERATOR) and for me one of the prime attractions is that with less than 9 months as a network, there is a huge amount of fresh ground. Obviously it all has to stack up with the usual criteria, and you have to apply your own judgement to that rather than referring to the past successes of others, but the field is wide open with a newer opportunity ……….

  41. Lucrecia Massucci Says:

I can’t figure out why yahoo sent me to this site but I can say I am now pretty fascinated by the comments you have pulled together. How many month did it take that many users coming to your internet page? I am pretty darn to this blog thing.

  42. Denise Says:

    @ Brett M: I feel where you’re coming from.

    -Blog-Response:

I’ve been familiar with MLM/network marketing for years, and was introduced and reintroduced to wide variety of companies. (ACN, Excel, Nucerity, Isagenix, NuSkin, MonaVie, TVI Express)

Of course, they all claim to be “the best” and “the next best thing”, they run numbers and market to my pathos, logos, and ethos– I get it.

This is what I’ve learned. When it comes to MLM, I’m not interested in “who’s the fastest growing”, or “who makes the most $$$”… I look at and look for “WHO’s going to stay around the longest” ….. meaning the company has :

    1) high integrity
    2) a position in a profitable “growing” market
    3) great leadership
    4) and a compensation plan that blows away the competition

with all that said, please check out reviews from Citizen Corp– [**LINK REMOVED BY MODERATOR**]

-”Our reviewers feel Pyxism could very well be the hottest opportunity in several years.”
-”The three factors that lead us to give Pyxism a five star rating are: the market…the leadership…the compensation plan”

    See why!

    [**LINK REMOVED BY MODERATOR**]

and let me show you how this company and my team are blowing away that list. and why many leaders from that list are switching to Pyxism

  43. admin Says:

    @Everyone,

Thanks for sharing your opinions and insights! Much appreciated.

Feel free to state your opinions, positions, and perspectives. If you provide links promoting yourself, your company, or your opportunity, they will be removed. This is for discussion and sharing – not for the direct promotion of your company.

Feel free to tell the world why the company you are representing now is the best. But please refrain from posing links back to your company-replicated website, or sites designed to encourage people to sign up under you. All such links will be removed.

  44. thegreatesthumphrey Says:

I absolutely 100% support pre-paid legal! I have been in the company for two years now. It certainly takes a people person with alot of determination and patience, but the payoff is amazing! They have wonderful plans and the benefits you get from their product are well worth the investment! The leadership team they have put together for their associates is beyond anything I have ever seen! Two meetings a week, one weekend trip twice a month, and a weeklong semiar once a year. They make me feel welcome, capable, and like I am family. They are why I have succeeded. Its not about them… its about you in the company.

  45. busky Says:

    Melaleuca rocks

  46. Joline Says:

I worked for Monavie for a while. It is much harder to sell their products than they lead on. However, if you drink the product yourself, it is good and worth signing up for in the end.

  47. The Wonder Berry Says:

Looks like there are many MLM companies, and all may have certain benefits for each individual person, I was interduced to Monavie A year and ahalf ago,and we as a family are very happy with their products and our business is moving forward at a steady pace, We made a really good choice.
